Looking for somewhere to go for good food, good drinks, some music and a good time? You’ll get them all and more at McHenry County’s new hot spot – The Wave, a night club and restaurant in the back of The Waterfront Hotel & Marina. The venue, at 3309 N. Chapel Hill Road, in Johnsburg by the Fox River, had a test run Thursday night with members of the Johnsburg Area Business Association, the McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce, the Village of Johnsburg, the McHenry County Visitors Bureau and more.

The reviews came in with spectacular marks. The decor is one of a kind, warm and inviting. And running down the center of the establishment are two LED lighted ‘wave’ bars where guests can enjoy each other’s company with a few good drinks and some awesome food.

Speaking of drinks, the bar is stocked with a wide assortment of beers and name-brand liquors to make the most popular concoctions. One mixed drink you won’t find anywhere else is the fluorescent-blue House Special – The Wave Margarita.

When your appetite kicks in, the menu is no less tantalizing. The calamari was a hit among the appetizers, but mozzarella sticks and more also did well to start things off. The ‘meat’ of the menu includes an assortment of burgers that were very well received. However, it seemed no one could stop raving about the shrimp tacos or the pot roast.

While dining and drinking, guests enjoyed the live music of Scott Arcari – a musician extraordinaire. Arcari is a songwriter and accomplished musician who takes his craft seriously enough to have completed a degree from the Berkeley School of Music. But, when entertaining with an acoustic guitar on the stage at The Wave, he played favorite rock and country hits that helped to set the tone for a very pleasant evening.

By the way, in the summer, the four overhead doors will open up to a cobblestone patio along the river. Guests can come by land or by sea for good food, fun and drink. For that matter, snowmobilers can come now, assuming the river is sufficiently frozen.
